Dr. Sergey Zhitnikov, a member of the St. Vincent’s Bariatric Surgery team, specializes in minimally invasive surgery, advanced laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Zhnitkov came to St. Vincent’s from Westchester Medical Center in New York, where he completed a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Advance Laparoscopy/Bariatric Surgery. He stayed on at Westchester Medical Center to perform his residency and internships, and was later named Chief Resident and presented with The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons Resident Achievement Award in 2003.

Dr. Zhitnikov also performed a residency in Anesthesiology at Westchester medical Center and served as a Research Assistant at New Jersey Medical School and Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.

A native of Ukraine, Dr. Zhitnikov earned his medical doctoral from Odessa Medical University in the Ukraine, where he practiced for sixteen years in the Department of Surgery at Chernigov Regional Hospital’s, Kiev Medical Institute and Odessa Medical University Hospital.

He is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He is Board Certified by The American Board of Surgery.
